Position Title: FWM Applications Engineer

ADA Technologies, Inc. is a technology commercialization company located in Littleton, CO. We are seeking an experienced engineer to contribute to product development for our fine water mist fire suppression technology. This group has active development projects and patented technologies for fire suppression using fine water mist technology in multiple environments, including spacecraft and aircraft as well as conventional applications for Class A, B, and C fires. Fine Water Mist is emerging as a promising alternative to halons and halon replacement agents which have detrimental environmental impact. Over the past 10 years ADA has developed expertise and experience in Fine Water Mist systems for specialized applications. We are now ready to adapt those systems to more conventional fire hazards to bring this technology to a broader market. Current and anticipated funding is from NASA and the US Department of Defense. We have identified multiple partners with expertise in specific applications and presence in commercial markets.

Qualifications (WHO)

This associate has a reputation as an expert in the design and installation of fire suppression systems for a wide range of fire hazards as demonstrated by his/her contributions to many installations in a variety of applications. He/she is an excellent communicator who utilizes a variety of methods depending upon the situation. This person has demonstrated the ability to identify candidate technologies for given fire hazards, to define performance requirements, and to select the most cost-effective approach to meet the needs of clients and local fire safety authorities. These skills will be applied to help ADA develop Fine Water Mist systems that are cost- and performance-competitive with existing commercial systems for selected fire hazards.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, engineering mechanics, or physics). Work experience must include familiarity with both flooding and local application agents, UL and FM approval protocols, commercial markets for fire suppression technologies, and design tools for fire suppression systems. Experience with multiple types of fire suppression systems is a definite plus. We are looking for a hands-on individual who has practical experience with fire protection systems for a wide range of fire hazards.

The winning candidate must be a well organized individual with the ability to simultaneously grasp the big picture and work at a detail level on projects. This creative person is a life-long learner, always open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. He/she will contribute to existing ADA development activities, while seeking out and promoting commercial applications and related opportunities. The candidate is an established technical communicator and can produce clear and effective technical reports, proposals, and presentations. Finally, the candidate must embrace the ADA core values.

Areas of Responsibility (What)

  • Contribute as a key team member to the design, fabrication, and testing of advanced fire suppression systems that incorporate ADA’s Fine Water Mist technology for multiple applications to a range of fire hazards. This includes shepherding production prototype systems through approvals by UL and/or FM.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial hazards to the preparation of specifications and performance requirements for competitive FWM systems targeted to specific markets.
  • Provide technical support to the design and fabrication of new FWM systems for targeted fire suppression applications. Take the lead in advancing FWM designs to provide advantages over existing competitive technologies.
  • Provide technical support in building relationships with commercial partners to create avenues for ADA-developed technologies to reach the marketplace and generate significant revenue.
  • Foster relationships with approval agencies to facilitate the testing and listing of new FWM systems for targeted markets.
  • Contribute to and communicate corporate and program vision.
  • Maintain effective communication up and down the organization.
