Spin-Off Company Focuses on Distributed Sensor Products

ADA Technologies is in the planning stages for a spin-off company to manufacture, market, and service its distributed sensor product line, which includes an auto-networking miniaturized WeatherPod™ and iridium satellite communication module. Dave Jansen, a seasoned veteran in both government marketing and small business start-ups, will head the new business venture.

The WeatherPod and iridium communication module have generated serious interest from government entities concerned with homeland security, defense, and emergency response. Extremely compact and weighing less than two pounds, the tiny WeatherPods have applications that include providing critical information on weather conditions and air movement near battlefields and wildfires, as well as monitoring the perimeters of hazardous materials facilities.

Additional pods for sensing radiation and chemical warfare agents, as well as a GIS visualization tool that will create a 3-D map of all the data in a network, are under development.

The WeatherPod Network also will be deployed in the future on container ships. The network will be augmented with sensors that directly measure the sea-surface temperature along with the meteorological parameters. Funded through an SBIR grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the data will be used with global climate change models.

To date, ADA Technologies, Inc. has received over $4 million in SBIR Phase I, Phase II, Phase II+, and Phase III funding for the research and development of its distributed sensor products.
