ADA Technologies, Inc. is organized as a developer and commercializer of technology. The corporate goal is to achieve commercial success with twelve (12) ADA exploited technologies. This is a ten year goal set in 2000 and one which we are well on our way to exceed. Much of our initial R&D success was derived from Small Business Innovation Research funding from the federal government. We continue to utilize this program for early stage development. Other sources of federal as well as private funds are being tapped for later stage development and formation of new ventures. The market and ADA’s application know-how drive the choice of technologies to be pursued. ADA will achieve its goal through a combination licensing and selling technology, creation of strategic joint ventures with other entities and creation and spinoff of new business ventures. These activities will be supported by five key skill sets: business planning, marketing, intellectual property management, business infrastructure and financial resource procurement. The resources are derived from a strategic mix of internal and external personnel.

Successfully blending the organizational requirements for performing R&D with those for commercialization requires a delicate balance since the two activities are quite different from a requirements perspective. From its years in business, ADA understands that this process is dependent on the encouragement of technology champions and the development of an intimate understanding of the market for the technology. A champion must be complemented with a business development team led by a well-qualified business developer who has specific experience in the application market.

ADA is organized around work units wherein the R&D is conducted. The company currently has four work units that address general topic areas. These are: Mercury Control and Separations, Instruments (Sensors and Microelectronics), Water Treatment, and PhysioNetics̉ . Each of the work units consists of a team of technical members with a single team leader. The teams prepare proposals, execute projects and work with the commercialization function at ADA to ensure that the technical activity will result in realizable value.

The work units are complimented by five cross-cutting functional areas: Leadership, Administration, Commercialization, Technology and Operations. The functional areas each have a leader and specific goals set during our annual strategic planning process. The functional areas round out the team by providing the basic business operation functions as well as the skills and activities necessary to commercialize technology.
